Q&A with Sonia Velazco
What did you do before joining Capital Investment Advisors?
I graduated from Valdosta State University in December 2021, and I moved back home [Atlanta] to find a better job opportunity. Capital is my first job out of college, and I could not be happier with my decision.
Did you always want to work in financial services/wealth management?
I went to school for Business Management and International Business. I knew I wanted to do something in business, but I was unsure of what field I wanted to pursue prior to graduation. During my last year of undergraduate, I was an intern at a financial advisory firm in Valdosta, GA. The internship taught me insights into the financial industry and helped me find out what I wanted to do as a career.
During the interview process, how did you know Capital Investment Advisors was right for you?
I knew Capital Investment Advisors was right for me because of their core values. I wanted to work for a company that had an excellent work environment and I wanted to be a part of a company that I could grow within. While interviewing, I felt comfortable throughout the entire process and could envision myself being a part of the company. I researched Capital Investment Advisors online and felt it was the best place for me.
What does a typical day look like as a Junior Client Service Associate at Capital Investment Advisors?
A typical day as a Junior Client Service Associate looks like working with the rest of the team to ensure the day-to-day operations of our clients and their families are met. Some of the day-to-day operations include assisting CSM/CSA with tasks, helping with projects, and providing clerical service tasks, as needed.
What does the operations team look like? How do you work together? With advisors?
The operations team consists of client relations and operation roles. We all work together to ensure the day-to-day processes run smoothly and help our families work towards a happy retirement. I have enjoyed working on this team because everyone is willing to help and answer questions when needed. We have weekly meetings to discuss issues/achievements with our team. Our team is not only in Atlanta, but we have second home teams as well.
What drives you professionally? What areas of your role do you find most fulfilling?
I strive to be successful in every aspect of my life, especially work. From an early age, I looked up to my parents’ hard work ethic and that inspired me to want the same for myself. I like being challenged and pushed out of my comfort zone. The areas I find most fulfilling in my role include assisting CSA/CSM and learning their duties.
What is your favorite thing about working at Capital Investment Advisors?
My favorite thing about working for Capital is the culture. On my first day, everyone was welcoming, and I felt a sense of ease. I like how this company is involved in community service as well. One of our core values is “Every Person Matters” not only do I feel that at work, but we ensure that throughout the company and to our clients.
