Social Security Question: Spouse Benefits

Q: I am divorced and would like to know if I can draw off my late husband’s Social Security. He passed away in 2001 and I remarried 4 years after he passed away.

A: Please be advised if you remarry, you generally cannot collect benefits on your former spouse’s record unless your later marriage ends (whether by death, divorce or annulment).
