Retirement Planning Question – Vanguard IRA

Q:  I need help reallocating a Vanguard IRA that I rolled an old 401(k) into. Currently I’m invested in VWO,VGT,VNQ,VB,VTI ETF’s. I’m 41 years old and have a balance of 53k in this plan. My primary work 401(k) is actively managed and I need help finding the right mix/allocation of Vanguard funds.

A: We like a lot of those ETFs and hold quite of few of them in our client portfolios. Without knowing too much about your risk tolerance or overall situation and taking into account that you’re 41, we would look at a 60/40 or 70/30 asset allocation. Using the funds you have (plus or minus a few)  we would suggest the following:

VTI: 40%

VXF: 15%

VNQ: 15%

BND:  15%

VYM: 15%
