Q: I am a 82 year old widow with small portfolio. What is good balance to have in equities/bonds/ETFs/other?
A: Thanks for your question. As a general rule of thumb you should consider owning your age in income + or – 10%. This means you should think about owning a combination of Bonds (ETF’s and Mutual funds), Preferred Stocks (ETF’s), REIT’s (ETF’s or Index Funds), and lastly Energy Trust or MLP’s (ETF’s) for income.
